Mission La Purisima Concepcion - by Landry

This mission is really long. This is the only mission that is not in the shape of a quadrangle. It is one long, straight building.

The bell is in the museum. All missions have a bell. Some have more than one bell.

The picture below shows the layers of the walls of the mission. Most were made of adobe. Then they were covered in plaster. When they are refurbished, some walls have concrete beams added that reinforce with steel.

The soldiers had to sleep in small beds.

Hunters killed animals and used the skin for making leather and shoes. The cow hide was hanging here  so it could dry and it was as hard as a rock.

The priest put his clothes in this dresser that was over 200 years old.

The church benches were not like normal church benches. They were placed near the walls so the entire church was clear of rows of benches in this mission.

The far wall has holes because part of it was starting to break.

These saddles are made out of the animal skin.

Native Americans built this hut. They worked on making leather and lived in here.
