DC Day Three - By Kennedy

When we went to the Buro of printing and graving where they make our dollar bills they gave us a tour. At the tour they said that the most money ever printed on a dollar bill was 100,000,000.  They thought that it was to much money for people to carry in their pockets.

There was a photo booth where you choose a background.  Landry and I took a photo with a 10 dollar bill in the background.

At the Newseum there were many historical artifacts from years ago.  This is Berlin Wall that separated the east and west of Berlin.  They tore it down and lots of people celebrated that they were finaly free.  Because they were serounded by this wall planes had to fly to bring them food.

This mom was in one of the planes that crashed in to the twin towers.  These credit cards and the purse were found in all the debret found.  She unfortunately died.

This is the long medal antena that was on top of the twin tower.  It was found like this after the tower fell.

This very power ful car had many bullets shot at it.  When it happened there were two newsmen.  They were protected and lived.

Hanging from the ceiling was this helicopter. It is from Texas.

Washington D.C. By: Kennedy

When we went to Washington D.C. we went to the Holocaust Memorial Museum.  In World War II, the Germans thought it was ok to kill Jewish people.  To kill the Jews they poured gas into rooms to kill them. 

These are pictures the Americans took of some Jewish people that died when the Americans arrived to help.  Many of the Germans thought some of the Jews were not perfect so they killed them. The leader that taught them this was Adolf Hitler. 

This train was used to take the Jew to the concentration camps.  The camps are where they made the Jews do slave labor and killed them.

There were six million Jews that were killed in the Holocaust.  All these shoes were worn by the Jews that were killed. All of the shoes were worn out and black.

All of the Jews that were going to be killed had numbers and letters printed on their arms to identify them.

We walked to the cherry blossoms and the Washington Monument.  The Monument was finished in 1884.  It is the world's tallest obelisk standing at 554 feet.

Around this huge fountain are marble columbs with all fifty states and U.S. Territories.

This is the Korean War Memorial.  The Memorial has statues of soldiers and a wall with soldiers' pictures.  My Grandfather Gonzales fought in the Korean War.  The Korean War happened between 1950 and 1955.

This is a Memorial for the 16th president of the United States.  The outside has  has a big staircase and large columns.  The inside has a statue of President Abraham Lincoln sitting in his chair.

The Abraham Lincoln Memorial has all the things he said.

At the Vietnam Memorial, it showed all the names of the 58,000 people killed in the war.  Arthur J. Rambo was a guy who ended up in a movie after he died in the war.

Later on in the day, we walked to the White House and took a picture through the gate.  

We visited Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren's office. She is the Congresswoman where we live in San Jose. Her staffer, Aaron, works for Zoe and was our tour guide.  She wasn't at her office so we didn't see her.  She was flying from San Jose to Washington, D.C.  

Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren chose this painting as her favorite in California.  I like it because it is bright.

In 4th grade, we learn about the California missions.  I was surprised to see Junipero Serra in the Capitol Building.

 

In these buildings, there were great icons about all the presidents.  

President Abraham Lincoln was a representative from Illinois.

Congressman Steny Hoyer is a Democrat.  Surprisingly my mom was outside his office but we didn't see her.

To travel around the congressmen and women take this inside train underground. 

This is a picture of John F. Kennedy in the Rayburn Building.

Because CongresswomanZoe Lofgren wasn't at her office we were able to sit at her desk.  I can tell she likes to draw leaves because I saw some on post it notes.

This is a big coin that Zoe had in her office of soldiers.

Unfortunately, the Capitol Building is being worked on so it looked ugly.

Washington, D.C.

Today we went to the Washington Monument. Around the Monument there are American flags.

Then after that we went to the Lincoln Memorial.It has a big statue of President Abraham Lincoln sitting in his office chair.

I stood outside the gate of the White House. I thought I saw Michelle Obama.

I got a tour of the Capitol Building and went to Zoe Lofgren's office. Although she was not there we still saw her office.

The Capitol Building was being worked on so there was construction going on.

Later that day we went to Ford's Theatre. 

Ford's Theatre is where our President Abraham Lincoln was shot and killed.

This is where Lincoln was sent to after he was shot. He died in the house below. 

At the end of the day when we were walking home the police came because they said there was a suspicious package on the roof of a hotel down the street.
