When we were in Monterey in January we went to Mission Carmel. Today this mission is still active. What I mean by that is that kids go to school there.
What I observed is that in the church, the roof is very high and there are lots of pictures.
Junipero Serra built this cross because it is the symbol for Christianity. My mom thought that it was a good angle.
Don't you think this was a great idea? They decorated the outside of where the person was buried with abalone shells.
These rock shaped items are what they used to smash berries and nuts in. The name of it is a pestal.
Junipero Serra was buried in the church at Mission Carmel. He lived from 1713 to 1784. Junipero Serra is a special man. He built the missions, and converted the locals to Catholicism.
